FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
COVID-19 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Specials (Sports, Fine Arts, Electives, Extra Curricular, etc.)
Will there be a different mix of kids on Fridays for specials?
We will begin the year by limiting interaction to within crews, even for our Friday Specials block. That may loosen as the school year process, according to CDC recommendations.
Class Setup
What is the class/pod size limit?
We call our class/pods “Crews.” Each Crew is not more than two numbered grades combined (example: Third and Fourth grades). The sizes vary depending on grade class sizes and meeting space sizes.
Will it be the same kids that stay together the entire day, week, etc. or will it change according to class subject?
Our students are gathered in small groups we call “Crews.” Crews are made up of no more than two grade classes, and will not be in contact with other Crews.
Will kids be moving from classroom to classroom or are teachers moving between classrooms?
Each Crew is assigned a location on the campus called an “Island.” That Island includes both individual grade class rooms and a combined Crew classroom. Each Island also has its own entrance/exit and separate bathroom facilities. Teachers will visit the Islands to teach their subjects, rather than students coming to teachers. The only exception will be for science class since they need the equipment only the science room can provide. The science room will be cleaned and disinfected between each use.
What does lunch hour look like?
Crews will eat lunch in their Islands (see the explanation of “Islands” in the previous question). While we are not able to safely offer a hot lunch program this year, we will have microwaves in each Island for students to warm up lunches brought from home.
Knights Mobile
What time is Knights Mobile available?
The Knights Mobile program will begin the same day as school begins - August 26. Student families can access the resources available any time they have an internet connection. Just like in-person learning, there will be due dates and timed elements to the Knights Mobile platform. The only synchronous portion of the Knights Mobile platform is chapel, which will be posted to the school website.
Do the students need to be online at a certain time? For a certain amount of time?
No. The only synchronous portion of the Knights Mobile platform is chapel, which will be posted to the school website. For all other classes, teachers will post recorded instruction videos which can be watched at any time. Once the videos and assignments are posted, each students can spend the amount of time they need to complete the assignment by the due date set for that assignment.
Can we start Knights Mobile then move to full time? Or start in-person, then move to Knights Mobile?
It is possible to begin in one setting and move the other, but it isn’t recommended. Students wishing to change setups will participate in an interview process to receive approval to shift. Once approval is granted, a start date will be set, classroom supplies will be updated, and programs will shift.
How will science labs work with Knights mobile ?
Lab demonstrations will be recorded and will provide alternate methods for doing the lab at home. If the full lab is not able to be done at home, assignments will be completed off the observations of the teacher’s video. Certain lab supplies (like direction kits) can be provided by BEBS.
If we are not able to watch the livestream “live” where can we find it to watch it at a later time?
Yes. Synchronous chapel times will be posted on the school website for later viewing.
